A Focus on Provider Quality:
Selected Clinical Measures
April 2020
As part of CHIA’s ongoing work to monitor health care quality in the Commonwealth, A Focus on Provider Quality: Selected Clinical Measures, 2018 examines performance across a subset of metrics from the NCQA Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS). This analysis explores the clinical performance of care delivered to Massachusetts commercial HMO/POS members during 2018 (based on NCQA HEDIS 2019 specifications), both at the statewide and primary care medical group levels. The selected measures cross several domains of care delivered or overseen by primary care providers, including:
The measures included in this report are a subset drawn from previous public reporting and the Quality Measure Alignment Taskforce’s Aligned Measure Set. The Taskforce is led by the Commonwealth’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services in collaboration with health care payers and providers, with the primary goal of building consensus on an aligned measure set for voluntary adoption by private and public payers and by providers in global budget-based risk contracts. Only the measures that were reliable at the medical group are reported at that level, and all others are reported at the state level only. Users can access the interactive dashboard on this page to select a measure group (listed above), a specific measure, and a parent provider network to view results by medical group as well as the statewide median for the chosen measure.
This publication is intended to provide insight into the selected measures, but should not be viewed as a comprehensive examination of the quality of care in the Massachusetts health care system. CHIA would like to thank Massachusetts Health Quality Partners (MHQP) and participating health plans for partnering with us on this project.
CHIA also displays the selected measures information in a series of interactive online graphics found on this webpage.
