Health care costs jump by 4.8 percent in Massachusetts, led by Medicaid spike

Health care costs in Massachusetts jumped by 4.8 percent in 2014, largely due to growth in Medicaid spending, according to a report that will be released Wednesday by the non-partisan Center for Health Information and Analysis. Total spending on health care in Massachusetts was $54 billion – an average of $8,010 per resident.

Aron Boros, executive director of the Center for Health Information and Analysis, said the numbers indicate that Massachusetts's health expenditure growth is roughly in line with the rest of the country. "That means Massachusetts will remain one of the most expensive places to get care in the country," Boros said.
